Power Metal with Symphonic Keyboards and Classical Vocals.

For their second album Pythia have upped their game immensely, this is a faster and heavier offering than their previous outing “Beneath the Veiled Embrace”. You get pummelling drums, thundering bass, fast guitar riffs and the keyboard adds an extra dimension to the music taking it to another level. That’s not to say this album is just fast and heavy, there are some beautiful moments here too, for example “The Circle” at one point mellows momentarily into something reminiscent of Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan. There are plenty more changes of pace within the songs and some very nice guitar work to keep things interesting.

What makes this album extra special is Emily Alice Ovenden, the versatility of her voice is shown to great effect on this album. Her voice is powerful, soaring and emotion laden and she can change her style of singing to suit each song with ease. Some of the lyrics are gothic and dark in style, but there is some real life experiences expressed here, and expressed beautifully. On first listen I was taken with this album, but the more you listen the more it gives you and the more you analyse and evaluate the more you grow to appreciate just how good this offering is.
